Last night we got back from the strip around 3:30 so we didn’t get to bed until 4, then woke up at 8 to clean up and get moving. We left at 9:30 for valley of fire and boy was it worth it. Driving up to the park you could immediately tell why it was called valley of fire- the rocks were bright red against the bright blue sky. The visitors center was really cool and had some awesome information about the history, terrain, and wildlife of the park.

The best information we got was how to see the park in 2 hours or less which was perfect for us because it was 110 degrees and there was no way we were gonna spend any more time outside than necessary. We walked to the white peaks and climbed on some rocks and saw some pretty incredible views. Even in those 30 minutes we were all drenched in sweat and starting to feel the effects of the heat. Luckily the park is really drivable so we got to see a lot of cool sights and terrain.

Since it was so hot we figured we’d try to get on the road ASAP to head to Zion. The drive was fun and we listened to some good podcasts (The Liturgists, episode 37, NYT Change Agent) then went to the single chipotle in southwest Utah (it was delicious of course) and the people there were so kind!!! After that treat we drove the last hour to Zion and, again, driving up was incredible.

We started at the visitors center and got some sweet stickers (pictures to come!!) then set up at the campsite. Let me just say that the park is impeccably well kept. The campsite is organized and nice so hopefully we’ll be able to swing another night here. I’m so excited to explore the park and see all the uniqueness of the cliffs and rocks!!

Stay curious and happy travels!
